Pre-Covid I was on the 767-400 in NY, and had the opposite experience. Immediate family member (but not under my roof) had a auto accident with a suspected brain injury. CPO, said “GO, now! Do you need help getting a flight home?” They even followed up a day to two later and asked if I needed more time off (was a PD though).
So I think it can vary with the time period and/or CP team. 🤷♂️
This was spring 2018, NYC 7ER.
And yes, theres a lot of things that how it goes are basically dumb luck with who you get in the CPO. Which is why I want some protection for ground commuting in the contract. Not left to "please let the CP on duty be one of the reasonable ones"
