I don't think it would work that way. If you have DEN as your number 1 and you are the most senior person wanting DEN you would get it in a secondary vacancy. You would be at the front of the line in any primary vacancies by keeping your DRR intact.
Switching bases doesn't help the cause. You would need to be senior to get in without DRR. If you had that seniority to begin with you wouldn't be displaced.
