They don't fire you via a letter. So many security concerns if that's the first notification. What if said pilot was still on a trip when the letter arrived at their house? That doesn't pass the smell test. They also rarely if ever fire you for a single cause unless it's so egregious. Sick abuse could've been the straw that broke the camel's back but we need more info to be certain.
They’ll hand the pilot a letter at the meeting. But yes, this story is a BS management-sourced rumor until proven otherwise. If an attempt at termination actually occurred, then it would be because a mountain of evidence exists that a pilot lied about their sick status (difficult to prove in most cases).
