If you are interested google "The Algiers Accords & the Iran-US Claims Tribunal".

The payments made during the Obama administration were the last made by the US to Iran. The lawsuit dates back to 1981. If I recall, $1.7 billion was paid to Iran from the US and $2.5 billion was payed from Iran to the US. The money went to individuals, companies and both governments. The reason the payments were made in cash was because Iran was under sanctions and didn't have access to the international banking system.

You know, when you silo yourself in a information echo chamber in an environment where both foreign and domestic actors are trying to manipulate public opinion, you are surrendering your sovereignty. You are literally allowing people who you have never met, people who's motivations you don't understand to control what you think.
