I suggest you start developing your own mental moving map. Ideally, you will be able to recognize your position in space based on your instrumentation. If you start now while still learning and practicing the basics of instrument flying, you'll be set for partial panel approaches and actual conditions.
Start by visualizing the compass rose, then mentally turn it to match your heading. Another trick is to remember that the numbers always get bigger when you turn right, and smaller going left until you cross North.
