You think the fact that he's a 121 background means that he should start corporate life in a Kingair?!? Are you mentally disabled ? Let's see now....I bought a 737 for my business or family use....We're obviously not going to be using very small airports in uber-remote areas....So, should I hire a guy with thousands of hours in type or, should I hire a guy whose been flying a Citation/Lear/Hawker etc.... just because he's been in the corporate flying world? And by the way, most "1 week, 15 stop" trips are planned with a little help from a company like Universal or ARINC. You've been doing this how long? And this is the attitude you have? I bet you're a peach to live with on those trips.
The corporate vs 121 scuffle is one that has been going on for years and one that will continue well past your or my career. Fact is they both have their pro's and con's. I for one being a corporate pilot don't think would fit well into the 121 structure. I like being able to operate the aircraft my way.
While time in type is not the end all it certainly has it's appeal. Certainly to the insurance companies. Most owners would not concern themselves with the hiring and operation of said aircraft. They would hire a management company to either help select the staff for his/her operation or would have them manage/operate the aircraft out right.
Alot more goes into aircraft/flight management than just flying the aircraft. My company on international flights use Universal for flight planning assistance, but by no means hands the reins over to them. They wouldn't accept because of PIC authority. You're still responsible for dictating routing, time slots, and regulations. Also you're you're responsible for alternate and emergeny planning. All this takes time, and again something that flight planners won't do for you because of PIC authority.
In the end to think that we could instantly fill each others shoes just isn't true. I for one could not instantly fly 121, because their environment is different with different sets of rules. Cross-overs do happen and with everything learning has to take place. And remember we all are pursuing the same end goal.
