You're correct to say you're not "gaining" X-days by flying GS/QS over X-days (other than the 9 hours), but in terms of TAFB, flying broken trips vs unbroken trips almost always results in less TAFB.

And then of course there's the pay aspect.
I agree with your whole post. You consider only TAFB as working, I consider LC/SC working as well. It's not time off.
