I think whether or not someone served gives one a little leeway on an internet message board when challenging an opinion of “just send in the military to ____ and get them to do the thing”. That thing is our brothers and sisters away from their home in harms way. I get it, we all signed up for it. But only a tiny percentage of the country shares in the burden.
Agree in principle but there’s a little more to it. Like the burden of gold star families? Of a giving nation faithfully pouring massive aid into the arms of those millions lining up to receive what for some is surviving into next week? The contractors, civil servants, shift workers feeding the ravenous intake of the procurement pipeline? Whatever happens, heroes are where you find them.
