i doubt RG is getting specific orders on what deal to make from above. He is likely given a budget and goals. If he can’t make those there will not be a quick deal (just like if ALPA cannot get their goals)
they have their scapegoat. They can blame every self induced operations failure on gas and will not get pushback, they are already reducing the schedule which gives him breathing room.
The only way a quick deal works is if both sides can see a win-win. The idea of a win-win is not of interest to people who think that the other side winning automatically means you lost.
I'm skeptical of a quick deal too, but I'd be surprised with how badly RG has been running things (not just in our opinion, in his bosses' opinions) if they're giving him free reign to do what he thinks is best. Because what he thinks is best has gotten us into this absolute disaster.
That's also why when I hear he thinks he can fix it on his own, it just doesn't pass the sniff test in my opinion. I think a lot of the decision will be out of his incompetent hands. Again, that's doesn't mean we're getting a quick deal, but I question how much leeway he has.
