my buddy flew with a captain that missed his DH on a premium trip. Scheduling had him “self deviate” and he took the jumpseat on the next flight. Got his 8 hours of rest behind the door and was “legal”. He flew a 3 leg day the next day. I’ve had a similar situation where scheduling asked me to “self deviate” due to missing DH.. they were surprised I said no, they dropped the trip with straight pay but only after talking to the duty pilot. Scheduling tried to tell me it would a personal drop without pay at first.Anyways, they tried to get me to bail them out of their poor coverage, nah.
