+1. And once again for those sitting in back, FAR 117 says "8 uninterrupted hours of sleep opportunity". It is literally impossible to do that with '8 hours behind the door'. Frankly, that needs an ASAP so the FAA sees the pilot pushing.
I once had a DP reply to a very delayed report phone call with, "wellllll, tracking is going to want to negotiate that new report time." I told him, "I'll tell you what, I'll be in the lobby in 10 hours. Please have transportation there". The time was changed, but no van was present. shocker. Had to Lyft to the airport. Never heard another word.
Don't ever back down on FAR required rest. And if you are fatigued, please call in fatigued.
This was a few years ago, but you're right, I should have ASAPd it. Will do in the future.
