You are not required. Also, they cannot have staff look for you as well. They can leave msg for hotel staff to give you msg however it can only be deleivered on check in or check out. I didn't know about the hotel staff thing. About 2 years ago, scheduling had left about 4 messages on the cell to call them, they thenI had the hotel manager in CLT come up to my room and tell me I had to call scheduling...I told her I didn't have a phone. When she told me to use the hotel's phone, i told her I wouldn't, because it was long distance and I wouldn't pay for it. She brought me a cordless phone with scheduling on the other line. I figured at that point they had me.
I felt bad because the CA (who accidentally answered his phone, thinking it was his wife) was sitting at the airport waiting for me to ferry the plane for about 2 hours, but I made them really work to get a hold of
