What makes the CRI climb more difficult than it has to be is airspeed.
If you just hold 200 knots until making the turn, you will turn right onto the 176 radial. It's the people trying to burn a hole in JFK's airspace and rocket out at 250 kts are the ones that are blowing right through it and causing the problems. They seem to forget that higher airspeed = increased turning radius. Accelerate after you are established on the radial and your problems decrease by a factor of 100.
Breezy point climb is very easy. It's just a turn to the CRI vor and then once you cross the vor, it's only a few degrees of a turn to get on the radial.
