For years in the middle of the night I got direct to the airport, pilot's discretion one one thousand, get handed off to approach and on down to three, call the airport, cleared for the visual, spool up at 1000 AGL into YIP, TOL and FWA. Even a straight in ILS if you time it right. Granted SDF is busier but the idea has been around a long time.
