No, they do that all the time. UMs are not supposed to be on any last flight out of a hub, but occasionally parents still book them on it. And if the UM misses the connection/flight cancels, they will get a hotel room and someone from CS must stay with them for the night in an ajoining room. It's actually a pretty sweet deal, as you are on the clock the entire night.
A friend of mine and I chilled out at the airport Marriott all night a few years ago taking care of a brother/sister combo that missed their connection cause their parents booked them with a 30 min turn in CVG.
