Try telling your son that the base was named for Navy Lt Seymour A. Johnson who died for his country in March 1941 test flying a F4F-3. A Navel Academy Graduate with over 4000 flying hours, the folks in his home town, Goldsboro, NC, thought so much of him, they asked the Air Corps to name their new base after him. Look real deep and see if you can find a sense of humor somewhere. Or did you just want to cr@p in someone's corn flakes before going to bed? No disrespect intended (even if he was a squid), but the name in today's and my day's context can be considered humorous. Farts are funny too. BTW...I actually did tell him who the base was named after a long time ago and he still thinks it is a funny name, just like the many other names out there that have been made fun of for years.
