The reason relative seniority is the only method that doesn't result in a windfall for one group and a total screw job for the other. One company is growing with larger, higher paying equipment across the board while the other is stagnant or shrinking with a relatively small number of larger equipment. Take a look at where you are now and what you expect to hold and when and it should look pretty much the same post SLI.
