The main reason of the failures is that guys are showing up without an intrument scan, or knowledge of instrument procedures. Flying a new plane with no autopilot, no glass and faster than they are used to is also a challenge.

If you're thinking about Lakes, don't kid yourself into thinking you have a good scan. Nobody's scan is good enough. When you get to ground school you should be able to shoot a single-engine NDB approach, with a 25 knot crosswind, with turbulance. Then you should be practicing it 50 more times AFTER you're sick of it.

I've sent my fair share of new hires home because they can't fly an ILS to minimums, have no situational awareness, or can't keep up with the plane. Keep in mind, although GLA isn't a shiny new jet job, you will be a professional airline pilot, prepare for it like a professional.
