I read and watch many newscasts I don’t agree with. I speak a couple other languages and frequently watch the news in those languages as well just to see other perspectives (the internet is a beautiful thing – thank you Al Gore! 
)
So basically I’m agreeing with you; I just think that The Guardian is about as reliable as The Enquirer is here...
...and to answer your question, yes I do believe the CIA could be that stupid, I just don't believe it in this particular case...
