I agree with Emb170man. If there was ever an emergency (or something like minimum fuel, etc...), they can and should disable channel 9.


I think what the first poster was referring to was captains who never turn on channel 9. Like they feel it will aid terrorists if they wanted to take over the aircraft or something . Channel 9 is unique to United and lots of people really like it. Just walk down the aisle of a United flight and see for yourself. Especially during takeoff, final approach, and landing. Everyone from aviation enthusiasts to the frequent business travelers (they people who pay lots of money for their ticket) likes channel 9.

Keep it on unless you have a good reason to turn it off (like what Emb170man said).
