During the BK the same thing happened. The union was offering many differerent ideas to the company and getting nowhere. It was then that the MEC went straight to Delta. Delta was confuesed as to why the offers weren't taken. Delta agreed with the MEC and then shortly after there was a plan. How bad is it when you have to go around your management to your parent company to get anywhere.
Delta should just get rid of Comair's management and just run the place themselves. How much money would that save over the course of a contract?
See, I have some doubts about that. There is a thing called single carrier that prevents the MEC from "negotiating" with Delta because to maintain a seperate operating certificate, Delta is not allowed to negotiate with the MEC. Period. I don't believe that Delta would ever meet with the MEC, because they would not have put themselves in a dangerous place like that. That could cost them Comair's operating certificate and it would not happen.
At the same time, I wonder why the company was able to negotiate with the FA's for voluntary leaves but not the pilots? There are a couple logical reasons that the IBT could get a deal done and the MEC could not...but one is not because the company refused to negotiate with ALPA but was happy to talk to IBT. And how come during this whole time period when the company was supposedly ignoring these proposals, the union did not say anything to us about it? How come they put out something saying e-crappo was a more pressing issue than furloughs? All I am saying is it doesn't smell right to me. I think everyone on both sides is full of it.
