Not to get to political, but exactly what "big business ideas" are you talking about?
In a free market economy, free being the key term, the government's role should be rather limited. While I will agree that there is too much overlap that goes on between big businesses and government officials, I will not agree that these types of conflicts of interest occur on only on side of the aisle. Many corrupt politicians and big business people keep one another in each others' back pockets, but I think the issue, as far as government involvement is concerned, should be focused on ethics reform rather than increased market oversight and regulation.
Corporate America is out of control in many areas, but I think it's easier for Main Street to point the finger at Wall Street when every street in America is partly to blame.
How many people do you know who have gotten mortgages they couldn't afford, or use their credit cards up to the limit on a regular basis?
How many credit card or loan offers have you received in the mail?
In my opinion, both Wall Street and Main Street are to blame and it is always easier to blame someone or something on misfortunes as opposed to accepting responsibility.
