There was always a massive build up and practice schedule to ensure the "gold team" was spun up and ready to shine. Agree in principle at least. I don't know about Gunsmoke or the other Hawg competitions, but when the AF squadrons were invited to the Low Country Bombing Derbys it would be a multi-week work-up period they would tell us! Our crew(s) usually found out one or two days before the derby
Great fun though and a nice diversion from the usual grind!
