Default Hawgsmoke

Heard a rumor that DM couldn't field even one team of Hawgsmoke players out of the 3 AD squadrons there. (Rumor has it the reserve squad is still planning to give it a shot, my WAG is with borrowed Hawgs vs their own)

Seems amazing that the new WG/CC couldn't find 4 airplanes to send up to Salina. Maybe he's just tired of losing to the weekend warriors.

Or maybe their plate has been plenty full with the ops tempo of late and they just don't feel like playing. Competitions like that take a heavy toll on a already full schedule of events. If that were the case, my guess would be they are opting for some quality family time over another tasking for a dog and pony show.

2 FTU squadrons that never deploy in support of contingency ops. 1 AD squadron, so out of the 50 odd guys in the AD squad---can't find 4 willing to spend a few days to compete on the range.

The squadron hosting the event returned from supporting the ops tempo a few months back.

And it's not a dog and pony show, just a 3 day turkeyshoot for bragging rights in the Hawg community

Granted, it's been a loooooong time since I was around Gunsmoke, Long Rifle or any of the other competitions, but they were NEVER just a 3 day turkey shoot. There was always a massive build up and practice schedule to ensure the "gold team" was spun up and ready to shine. Maybe things have changed (Gawd I hope so), but they were never "just a 3-day turkey shoot."

Agree in principle at least. I don't know about Gunsmoke or the other Hawg competitions, but when the AF squadrons were invited to the Low Country Bombing Derbys it would be a multi-week work-up period they would tell us! Our crew(s) usually found out one or two days before the derby Great fun though and a nice diversion from the usual grind!

No load exercise, no crew chief points, the competition is one four ship to the range. And, the overseas guys borrow planes.

In short, the competition is merely something Hawg guys do virtually all the time. Hawg guys are about putting ordnance on target, guns-missiles-bombs. Not the jack of all trades, simply the master of one.

Actually the 45 FS will be there. New reserve unit at DM.

Yep, flying someone else's airplanes.
Sure is a shame that they couldn't round up 4-12 Hawgs out of the 82 they have there.....or even just send some pilots up to play with the reserve jets.

There is some cover out there now, but, of course-the decision not to play was made about 6 weeks ago.

And technically, the 45th is "owned" by the 917th at Barksdale.
