If the decline in oilprices continues, 50 seat flying can be profitable again.
Oh, and gas is down to $2.37 a gallon in DSM. Never thought I'd see that again.
This reminds me of a similar situation a few years ago when ACA lost their Dojet flying within DCI and Delta was looking for some place to put them. The story I heard is that they wanted to give them to Comair but our MEC wouldn't budge on a lower pay rate, insisting we use the 50 seat rj rate. Delta got the message we weren't interested and continued shopping. Well guess who comes in a few weeks later with an offer to take the leases off Delta's hands if Delta will give them a percentage of DCI flying? Yep...MESA! Way to go MEC...thanks for opening the door for Freedom. The point is if you are given an oppurtunity for new flying, you ALWAYS TAKE IT.
