I did mine about four months ago at the CAAC medical centre in Shanghai. Your company may have their own doctors, the one that I work with does and they accompanied us to the medical. You can ask them beforehand, as in before you waste your time, if the past procedure is going to pose a problem; our guy's know what is what so they can answer up front, other companies I don't know. Our company doctors are quite bright, not fluent English, but I don't speak much Chinese either and I do work in China.
It may vary from airline to airline so, as is obvious with the various threads here, be cautious. When I went to the medicals (second for the work visa but identical to the aviation) I was with four other pilots and two company doctors. The second I had a company handler. For my ATPL I also had a company handler and driver who picked me up at my hotel (nice, and paid by the company) and took me to the CAAC testing centre. I recon the treatment varies from company to company considerably.
