This is very sad for all. At my first airline, the company and union made it clear that the proper way to handle such a situation was through Pro Std's. I hope another crew member wasn't the whistle-blower. Someone should have informed the F/O, who should have known how to handle this. Not defending his(Ca's) actions, but of my 3 airlines, the one where the pilots & f/A's actually liked and respected each other was the most enjoyable.
Didn't mean to offend. Just been in the military 17 years and have 2 much "look out for your buddy" in me, maybe more than most of my present military peers. Flying under the influence with passengers in your charge is abhorrible. Whether left or right seat, I would have had strong words for my fellow pilot, reported the incident to Prof Stds, and would not have let the aircraft leave the gate with that pilot or allow the passengers to see the pilot. I speak as a now seasoned pilot and officer. I admit that that was not always the case. Just happen to enjoy looking out for my crew members. Couldn't sleep if I hadn't done all I could to help one of them.
Still romantic about being an Airline Pilot. Preferring the ALPA kool-aid not the Company's.
