How is it more beneficial to fly for the reserve/guard and have an airline job at the same time? Are there any cons in that method?
Pros: Early in your airline career you have "furlough insurance" (someplace to make the mortgage, plan on being furloughed) and can make a little extra $ during the first few low paying years.
Cons: No retirement check/medical benefits until you are 60, and that's if you finish 20 good years. Most don't. Plan on missing a lot of important events in your kids life. I retired just as mine left for college.
