Yep. Fly the plane above all. You'll be amazed how quick it goes to poo when you're trying to program the GPS, tuning the radios and looking at the chart.
Do a little, scan. Do a little more, scan. Do the next thing, scan. Just when you think you've scanned enough, scan again. Don't start an approach until you're ready. If you need a vector to buy some time, ask for one.
The instrument rating is the most fun for a lot of people. I think it's the first time you really get a dose of "real world" flying that most of us will be doing for the rest of our careers. Good luck!
