Good luck. I started in 1994 and and just broke 1000TT last month because I did management for so long. I hope to finish the year with almost 1200TT & 350 ME; and I hope to have 1400 to 1500 by the end of March. Maybe then people will actually be hiring again.
There is much debate about whether or not it is worth the sacrifices to leave another career and follow this dream. I think I will happiest if I can fly. If the best thing for my family is to go back to management and earn enough money to BUY or share in something faster and nicer than a Cessna 172, then so be it. In the meantime, I'm working on both the flying option and the MBA route as a backup.
If you are 44, I'm sure you must have other marketable skills that you can fall back on if necessary.
