I don't see where there is a double standard. Maybe I am not seeing your point.
Pilots who get removed from Trips (Union Paid trip removal to be more specific) are expected to fly Assoc Fly Back (AFB).
More simply, if they get removed from a 7 day trip and perform only 3 days of Union work......they owe the Union 4 days of AFB.
They are allowed to go in open time and pick up trips under AFB. The Pilot does not get paid for this, because he got paid for the trip he/she was removed from. The Association (ALPA) gets the credit applied to their bank.
Did you know that when ALPA pays the Company for a Pilots trip removal, the Company charges ALPA 150% of the credit value...........???
So when a pilot does AFB it helps reduce the burden.
Anyone who has been removed from a trip for Union business my fly a trip under AFB. If you have not been removed from a trip.......you may not use AFB. If you want to Fly AFB go volunteer at the Union and if get get trip removal for your efforts........have at it and fly some AFB.
There is no double standard. As far as what a committee person or any other ALPA volunterr does on his/her days off, that is their business.
The only problem would be if a Pilot was removed from a trip paid by the Union.......and then Flew a VLT/Draft trip over the same foot print.
That is and would be a Big No NO........................and is/would be an integrity violation.
A former VP of FLT ops was apparently accused of doing this years ago and hence "The Blocked Calender" option.
Call Chris Baker MEC Sec/Treas with your concerns. Call your Block rep.
So before you get the panties in a wad......get the facts.
Let me know what you find out............
