If you are not sure of ANY industry where the senior folks of a seniority system are due entitlement, then you haven't looked. That is simply how a seniority system works. Imagine if GM announced tomorrow:
"We're pulling out of Detroit and moving everything to Queens. You can quit, or come with us. We'll provide the moving truck and give you two days off to get your family settled in."
I bet you would have more than "grumbling" from the UAW guys who have made their lives in Michigan for the last 30 years.
To add insult to injury: "...And we'll be donating our abandoned Detroit assembly plants, offices, and facilities to Ford and Chrysler so they can stay in business. Have a nice day."
