Not only do you have to sponsor yourself through salary sacrifice, but you have to pay to apply, for an online psychological test and, here is the iceing on the cake, you're interview. A buddy of mine at Jet Star mainline (if you can call it mainline) had to pay for his security pass.

Nobody can be blamed for going to work for these guy's though, especially in tough times. Even though we're often our worst enemy, not taking certain job's, no matter how degrading the terms, is just not an option. Perhaps it's time that the authorities and governing bodies took care of the problem. It's incredible that the wages in the "first" world are now below those in many parts of the third world.

QF is preying on pilots. Not only through the current financial situation, presented to us by their friends in the banking industry, but through pilots desire to pursue their passion. From Skybus, the regional jet operations and the Majors with what they did to their staff in the past years, to this kind of BS, the greedy industry executives and HR people continue to disgust me.
