Good questions. If they don't want to pay dues or become a member that is there right. However, they are only hurting themselves and the rest of the pilot group. At Colgan we are responsible for dues as of April 1st 2009

Say they want to go to another ALPA carrier that will have agency shop rights in their contract, let us say Delta. They apply four years from now, get hired, and go through training, make it through their first year and are about to get off probabtion.

Most if not all of the legacies that are ALPA require their pilot roster be ALPA members in good standing, so in order to get off probation they will be responsible for their back dues with interest starting from the first day you were responsible for dues. So eventually, they will be responsible for the dues. We are all in this together and we hope they are as well.

Make sense?
