When times get tough (right now) schools spend the money deposited by new studdents to fund the training of students who are further along. When new enrollments dry up, the ponzi scheme falls apart, the school goes BK, and the new students lose all their money (but they still have to pay off the loan).

Never keep more than one thousand dollars or so on account at any flight school. If the school requires large sums on deposit, walk away.
Good advice and hopefully these folk's starting out will use it and not learn the hard way.
