We have even more in common. I am the same way. However, there is a fine line between what is safe and what is required to pass the "OCD" test.
I grew up flying family owned airplanes - I can count the number of times I rented on less than 3 hands.
I don't own one myself yet, but am very familair with the cost and its pretty much like having another home. If you can afford an additional mortgage payment on top of your current, you can own. Figure about 12-14k per year. And that includes flying it a good bit.
