I cannot relate to this A/C, but typically there is a big red button on the yoke that deactivates four things - one of these being the stick pusher. I was certainly trained on how to override a pusher and do not think that my training was the exception to the rule.

I believe most any pilot with adequate awareness of altitude would have pushed the button at a stick pusher to override the system. The problem was likely lack of time to figure out the situation.
