Rant: Being married or having a family does not put one in a class all its own. The frustrations of commuting to a job are the same for all those involved. The lack of a legally recognized spouse, or a string of children does not equate to one having it easier than the married/family guy or gal.
For each married pilot missing his or her spouse/family while commuting, there is an unmarried one that is likely missing the opportunity to have a spouse/family due to the commuting lifestyle.
Both situations are equally frustrating. Although I'm sure unintentional, it is common for one to diminish another's situation by inflating the value of his/her own hardships while failing to recognize or diminish the hardships of his brother/sister.
