Sully got lucky after a highly questionable decision.
If grandma in a wheelchair could not have made it
out of the wreck in time the news coverage would be
different and he would face the courts.
From the point of dual flameout – or the point from
where Sully took the controls away from his F/O to
touchdown the A320 flew 12 NM.
It is only 7 NM back to LGA!
He made the ‘heroic’ decision not to endanger people on
the ground instead of thinking of his passengers and
crew first?
And then he forgets to hit the ‘Ditching Switch’.
The A320 flies easy because of the auto trim feature,
and green dot will let you glide at best speed.
