What I really want to know, is why the E170/E190 program was scrapped at Midwest? You guys had the chance to fly these airplanes. I understand management wanted the YX pilots to do it for a lower rate, but at least you as a pilot group had an opportunity to bargain with management. At RAH, we don't have that opportunity except in our overdue CBA. I write this more as a sincere question than a criticism.
They didn't have an opportunity to bargain with management. They were offered YOUR payscales maxing out first officers at $37/hour or nothing. They decided it was better to lose their jobs with dignity than UNDERCUT the entire profession and become the lowest paid 170/190 operator in the world. These Midwest pilots had a career. They were not flying jets for part-time job wages like you guys. To them, it was about supporting a family. To you, it's a cool airplane and a lot of fun to fly. 10 years from now, there will be 12 year first officers at Republic still making $37/hour while inflation brings your pay to the equivalent of $20/hour today. Enjoy your career.
