With one caveat - if FDX does not service an airport close to your home, it gets more difficult. Certainly doable, just a little more difficult. During my indoc, when we had to identify our staging base, when I said Fort Walton Beach, FL, the guy told me I should move. I guess he commuted out of Pensacola for a couple of years before finally moving to Planet Memphis. I've been able to off-line jumpseat on NWA fairly regularly, with only one cancelled flight and one denied jumpseat. The biggest drawback is that without getting on the AM push out of Memphis on a FDX aircraft, you have to add a day on both the front and back end of your trips. Turns a 15 day month into an 18 or 19 day month.
