That's funny. I don't recall much talk over here about it then, except in passing. We had many smaller RJ's coming and the economics of the 50-seater had yet to collapse as fuel was relatively cheap. That's when AA started to furlough and no one here was fooling themselves about this airplane.
Look around now and Eagle is one of the few regionals that DON'T fly them. AMR cannot continue much longer with the current system and AA can never compete against other regionals with this aircraft, so now the dreams are back and soon AMR will make it a reality either thru negotiation or BK.
They have no choice, if they want to remain a going concern especially with their future debt problems.
