Thats a lot easier than lugging around 50+lbs of charts everywhere.
My current airline "maintains" the jepps and company manuals as part of the aircraft library as you seem to be talking about. While it is very nice not to have to lug a flight bag around everywhere, there are drawbacks. Such as having to put up with other people taking out pages, and putting them back out of order or under the wrong airport. Or noticing that the charts are possibly a revision or two behind. Or dealing with pages that are falling apart because everyone uses them.

While lugging your own set around is a pain, it is nice to know that you are in charge of maintaining it, and nobody else can mess it up.
