Important point to remember is that these two violated many SOPs contained within their company manuals ranging from sterile cockpit procedures to monitoring the progress of the flight. I’ll bet this was not the first time they did not follow their SOPs, but unfortunately 50 people paid the ultimate price for the crew’s noncompliance.
As I pointed out before tragic events such as this are not limited to the commuters. The American 757 that crashed into while approaching Cali Columbia is another example of what can happen if SOPs are not adhered to.
