But the DC9 was definitely the RJ of its day, feeding its larger siblings . . . and nothing wrong with that.

The problem came when DC9 and 737-200 regional flying was farmed out to the lowest bidder, who put the people in the "new RJ's" (the EMB's and CRJ's) and paid the pilots as if they were still flying turboprops.
