ODT, when you load up in the van at the aircraft on the cargo side in PVG, they take you over to the passenger side to clear immigration and pick up your bag(s) on the lower level of the terminal.
Just e-mail the ramp, tell them what you want to do, and what flight you're going out on, and they will have a guy escort you, or meet you on the upper level to check in for the United flight. Should be easy, even if you were taking the NW flight, assuming your inbound flight was not late. With four hours, it shouldn't be any problem at all. Since you're not supposed to be in uniform when deadheading out, you'll just need to hit a rest room, handicapped stall, to change your shirt after you exit customs on the lower level. Then enjoy the first class lounge.
