Another FDX Deviation question

Another FDX Deviation question
Say you had a intl pairing in Asia. You are scheduled to fly your final revenue leg out of our CAN hub to PVG, then DH the same duty period over to ICN for the layover. Once at ICN, the schedule has a 23 hour layover then a two day/two duty period DH back to Memphis(ICN-DFW, L/O, DFW-MEM). Of course I am not headed back to Memphis so...
1. Section 8.3.d.ii.(b) of the contract says:" A pilot who deviates from international deadhead travel may
expense hotel(s) as part of his deviation travel as follows:
(1) he may expense 1 hotel room as a deviation expense, or
(2) he may expense up to the same number of hotel rooms as in
his scheduled deadhead.
Intent: A pilot scheduled for an intervening layover during a 2
duty period international deadhead may expense an
intervening hotel use enroute to his scheduled destination".
If so, at Fred's expense may I get a hotel room in PVG then fly directly out of there? If I am correct how does one get the FDX layover hotel booked at the FDX rate in/at PVG?
2. If I decide to go on to ICN as scheduled, are there any facilities at PVG to change out of the uniform in?
3. Does FedEx want us in our uniform on DH's out of China?
Any gouge/information would be helpful.

Contact the hotel and make a reservation requesting the contract rate. I'd skype or email (if you can get the email), explain who you are and what you want to do. I've done this many times domestically, but not international. I can't see why it would be any different as long as you can establish comm. Big variable is will they offer the contract rate - probably depends on whether they're looking for extra business.
I'm sure you could find some place that will work.
I've never heard that. I've done PVG-ORD out of uniform and had no issues.
Good Luck.

All the ramps in ASIA are very helpful in arranging hotels/transportation for us, I would recommend using them to coordinate deviations.
I have the same trip this month and I'm planning to fly directly back to the US once I land in PVG. But, you are allowed to expense a hotel in PVG even though one is already paid in ICN for you.
BTY, ICN has a transit hotel at the airport for short layovers with an airline discount. It comes out to around $40 for 4-5 hour stay. The ramp will drive you over to the terminal and walk you to the hotel if it's your first time. The only problem is when you check-in for your flight since you have bypassed the normal passport control(immigration). But our FedEx inbound flight is in the airport system and the airline personnel are able to process you through. I try to have a Gen Dec with me just in case. Again, email the ICN ramp and they will make the reservation for you with the trans hotel if needed.
PS, PVG may also have a transit hotel..anyone know???

This will be my first time thru PVG. My United flt to SFO leaves at 1230pm so I have plenty of time, reason why I would like to know if there's a transit hotel at the airport. I would email the ramp and see if they can give you a ride over to the PAX side (I've had the ICN ramp give me rides in the past). If they can get you into the terminal on the secure side, you should have plenty of time. Don't forget to bring a Gen Dec. This assumes you're on time out of CAN.

Just e-mail the ramp, tell them what you want to do, and what flight you're going out on, and they will have a guy escort you, or meet you on the upper level to check in for the United flight. Should be easy, even if you were taking the NW flight, assuming your inbound flight was not late. With four hours, it shouldn't be any problem at all. Since you're not supposed to be in uniform when deadheading out, you'll just need to hit a rest room, handicapped stall, to change your shirt after you exit customs on the lower level. Then enjoy the first class lounge.
