Take it with a grain of salt. Assuming he's senior (since he thinks he can waive a magic wand and get someone hired), there are guys like this at every airline. They are out of touch with reality when it comes to the current hiring/job/experience situation.

I was a regional captain and had a CAL 777 check airman give me his card and tell me he would get me a job. Didn't even get an interview but it all worked out.
