Need knowledable help on part 61.73 situation
I was in flight training in the Navy about 15 years ago. I was a private pilot when I went in, with a fair amount of time towards my instrument. Got taken off the flight schedule for medical issue with 4 flights left in primary. Long story short, never got back on. Just got my medical after 15 years. Have (by FAR definition) almost all the hours requirements for IFR ticket, and Commercial as well.
I sent a request to AOPA for their opinion on if they thought my hours could be "counted" towards the requirements for instrument rating. They said that the "- the navy training may be counted if provided to you, and endorsed properly, by an authorized instructor. This is a person who is/was certificated by FAA under part 61". Military instructors (most likely) are not going to be certificated under part 61 explicitly. Isn't there something implied that they are; - since there are military and civilian aircraft using the same ATC facilities, runways, and airways all over the country??
I don't want to be too optimistic, but just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with this issue specifically. Thanks!
