We had a similar issue here at Brown. We once had a mandatory check in before any trip started, but the arguement was made that since it was "mandatory" you couldn't be considered in "rest." The Company wasn't starting our rig at that point either. Now, under our current contract, it only applies to trips beginning with a deadhead, and now makes it a check in window: from 24 hours prior to 2 hours after scheduled departure (for those who deviate). The Company just wanted to be assured that you were aware of, and on the trip I guess.

On a tail end DH, it wouldn't be a pay issue if you're on a trip rig, but it certainly could be a required REST contract issue.
